Key Actions from the October 6 Starkville Board of Aldermen Meeting
The Starkville Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Tuesday evening, October 6, with several items on the agenda involving city ordinances, development, employee compensation and future land-use regulations.
Here are some of the key actions taken during the meeting.
Ordinance 26-01 Amendment
The Board approved an amendment to City of Starkville Ordinance 26-01 to correct what was described on the agenda as a scrivener’s error.
The change replaces the words “light beer and wine” with “alcoholic beverages” in Section 2 of the ordinance.
Alderman Brooks made the motion, Alderman Moreland seconded it, and the measure passed by a 5-2 vote.
Beacon Place Development Variance
The Board also considered a request involving the proposed Beacon Place Development, located on the west side of Carter Boulevard near Abernathy Drive.
The request sought a variance from the front building setback requirements for the development.
Alderman Brooks made the motion, Alderman Moreland seconded it, and the Board approved the request unanimously.
Proposed 180-Day Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Moratorium
Another item focused on a proposed 180-day moratorium involving vehicle repair and maintenance uses.
The Board voted to move forward with calling a public hearing on the proposed moratorium as city staff considers amendments to the Unified Development Code.
Alderwoman Sistrunk made the motion, Alderman Moreland seconded it, and the vote was unanimous.
The vote does not represent final adoption of the moratorium. It moves the proposal forward to a public hearing.
3% Salary Adjustments
The Board also approved authorization for 3% salary adjustments under existing City of Starkville policies.
During the meeting, the adjustments were discussed as anniversary raises for eligible city employees.
Alderman Moreland made the motion, Alderman Brooks seconded it, and the measure passed 6-1.
